Gary King

MIOA
Director

Education

Gary studied Environmental Health at Tottenham Technology College and completed the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Diploma in Environmental Health.  Whilst working as Environmental Health Officer, Gary continued his studies, and undertook and successfully passed the Institute of Acoustics (IoA) Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.

Work history

After spending his late teen years ‘working’ in his local pub as a barman, Gary’s first job was as a student Environmental Health Officer at Tendring District Council. Whilst not at college, Gary spent his time gaining work experience in all areas of environmental health including, food hygiene, meat inspection, health and safety, unfit housing and all pollution issues.  Following qualification, he specialised in Pollution, including noise.  Gary stayed at Tendring District Council for 17 years eventually becoming manager of the Pollution team and Assistant Head of the Environmental Service.

In 2007 he joined Sharps Redmore where he worked as a consultant, specialising in Environmental Noise. Gary became a Director of Sharps Redmore in 2021.

Work experience

An interest in solving problems has driven Gary to a career first in Environmental Health and then in private acoustic sector. The experience of working on ‘both sides of the fence’ gives Gary an unique overview of understanding the impact of noise on people's lives.  This skill is now used to the benefit of Clients to assist with planning applications, complaints of noise disturbance/statutory, and licensing issues.  Gary has a particular interest in noise from sporting/leisure to industrial but also has experience in handling a wide range of projects including retail, commercial, industrial and entertainment sectors.

Plus

When not spending time with his young family Gary is a keen runner and spends most of his time running around the lanes of the Essex countryside.  Whilst it is too late for his Olympic dream to come true, he has taken part in several 10k races and half marathons.
